Case studies

Systems I've built: internal software that clients' teams use every day, so there's nothing to click around in. Each example, anonymised, covers what was wrong, what was built and what changed.

About these figures. These describe what was built and what changed in how the work got done. I haven't put savings figures against them, because I didn't measure the results afterwards. The one exception, the tyre service, carries the owner's own figure, attributed to him.

Case 01

Six warehouses, the same number of people: a fleet tyre service that outgrew its paperwork

The problem
The owner ran the whole business from memory: paper worksheets in a private shorthand only he understood, warehouse stock known through a notebook in one person's pocket, and cash tallied by hand at the end of every day.
What was built
Bookings, warehouse and stock management, cash and invoicing, customer and vehicle records, a webshop and a mobile app, and direct connections to partner systems, with each person and partner seeing only what they should — one system covering all of it.

Case 02

A delivery system that let non-technical staff run a technical process

The problem
Assembling websites at volume meant every job needed the same repetitive technical setup, and no two people could be allowed to end up doing the same job at once.
What was built
A board that moved each job through fixed stages, with the repetitive setup — code, hosting, a live placeholder page — handled automatically between them.

Case 03

Membership, payments and scheduling platform for a youth sports club

The problem
A club running on spreadsheets, a small hand-built admin panel, and a lot of individual know-how, as it grew past what any of that could carry.
What was built
One system covering members, teams, events, attendance and payments, in place of spreadsheets and one-off pages built over the years.
